Stimulating activites for 2 and 3 year old boys?
I am stay at home mom of 2 and 3 year old boys. We recently downgraded to one car, so the boys and I are stcuk at home. We have played games, with toys, watched all the tv we can without being zombies. We are just bored! My kids are climbing the walls. We play outside alot, but they are bored with our yard and surrounding areas and their outdoor toys have lost their appeal. What are some stimulating things we can do together, and some things they can do on their own?
You can do a craft activity together, you could bake or cook together–they love to mix and stir in new ingredients. You’ll have lunch and dinner done that way, too! Walk to your local library (if it’s close enough) and get new books and movies a couple of times a week–plus stay for story time. I’d recommend putting half of their toys in storage. That way you can change them out every few weeks so they don’t get bored with the same ones all the time. You can build a fort in your back yard with blankets and a rope strung between two trees or even put a blanket over the kitchen table and let them play in the fort underneath. See if there are any other kids in your neighborhood and maybe once a week you could watch another mother’s children and she could watch yours the next. That way the boys are getting to play with someone else’s toys once a week or once every other week. Or, once a week see if you can get up early and drive your husband to work so that once a week you can get out with the boys and do whatever you need/want to do with them. Get an inflatable pool for the yard and a sprinkler so you have that sort of entertainment as it gets warmer outside. You could make homemade play doh and they’ll love to play with it! Invest in a couple of young child computer games (Putt-Putt, Pajama Sam, to name a few) so they have that as an option. As you start walking all over the place, your boys will be able to walk much further distances than you thought they ever could–I used to babysit for a family who only had one car and the girls were able to walk a mile or two before becoming tired at the same ages as your boys are. Maybe get a sitter once a week for a couple of hours–just bringing someone new in could be exciting for them. I don’t know what your budget is like, but if you can get a college student or in the summer, a high school student to come play with the kids they’ll be entertained and you can get a break!
